Trailer Shots

'Obsessed' was released in April 2009. It is a thriller film which is the genre i wish to follow, i may produce a hybrid genre of thriller/horror but usually the trailers and films have similar shots and editing anyway just one has less than the other.

I watched this trailer taking note of the camera shots i picked out around 50 shots a lot of them similar and i noticed that mid shots where used a lot as these establish characters and create more drama. There was quicker editing towards the end, around the last 30 seconds of the trailer as the climax of the film is an action part, a fight between Beyonce (Sharon) and Ali Larter (Lisa). Also a lot of the shots are cut shots or extreme close ups of certain parts, usually of Ali Larter (Lisa) as they are trying to create enigma and drama and also to show her personality which is crazy.

Here is a list in order of the shots i noticed. I grouped some of them together as there are a lot of mid shots one after another.

  • Wide Shot - of the city (establishes the surroundings)
  • Two Shots - establishes two characters
  • mid shots of individual characters - better view of them
  • Cue card of text - (this appears throughout however i have not entered them in  my shot list later on)
  • P.O.V shot of computer screen
  • Close ups of characters
  • Cut in (Extreme Close up) of Lisa's skirt and leg
  • Close up of facial expressions
  • Extreme close up of their bodies - ( a few of theses in a row)
  • Wide shot (establishing shot) of family house
  • Close up of shot of new character
  • mid shot of the two characters - establishes their relationship
  • Wide shot of bed and two characters
  • cut shot to Lisa
  • close up of family photo
  • Wide shot of all three characters - brings them together for first time
  • Wide shot of just wife and husband - shows reactions
  • Two Shot
  • P.O.V shot of computer
  • Mid shot of wife and husband
  • Close up- character is slightly off shot of centre to focus attention onto his hand gesture
  • Two Shot
  • Wide shot of car, establishes new scene
  • O.S.S
  • close up of reaction - anger (audience know film is going to get nastier)
  • Lots of close ups and cut ins
  • Mid Shots
  • Close up of Lisa on hospital bed
  • Wide shot - shot reverse shot
  • Two shot
  • Close up of Lisa
  • Mid Shots
  • Cut shot of back of dress
  • Birds Eye
  • Cut shot of hand
  • O.S.S
  • Close up of smashing window
  • Mid Shot
  • Cut shot of dress
  • Long shot of Sharon
  • Wide shot, O.S.S
  • Long shot
  • O.S.S
  • Close up
  • O.S.S
  • Mid Shot
  • Low angle shot (wide shot)
  • Wide Shots
  • Long Shot
  • Mid Shot
The cuts at the end get a lot quicker and show a lot of action and fight scenes, some of the shots change as it is the first time we see a low angle shot and long shots this is to change the atmosphere of the trailer and bring the genre clearly into the audiences mind.
I have taken the different shots into account and hopefully this will come across in my trailer.
