My Magazine Front cover
As previously mentioned I have chosen to imitate the magazine called 'W'. I have studied many of their magazine front covers and have taken their conventions into account. However I have changed the codes used to represent the genre of the film. There have been front covers of W magazine that are about films and these too incorporate the codes of the film. The main heading uses words that also portray the genre by the use of the word 'crazy' however the first word fashion keeps in the ideology of the magazine. I have also adapted their slogan. Each new issue has the same slogan apart from the ending. In this one I used 'WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN AND WHY IN THE WORLD OF CRAZY'.
The cover is looking very much like other magazine front covers from W. However I have not placed the main image yet and there isn't an issue number, price or barcode anyway. This is because I have to do further research as online in W magazines gallery of front covers they are just the image and not the finished article.
I took part in Peer Evaluation which is were my classmates looked at my magazine front cover and gave their opinions. At this time the magazine colours were white and the text was pink, however everything else was the same. They did this by writing positive and negative points.
In summary here is what their main positives were:
- Authenticity - you have done well to replicate an existing magazine.
- Looks Professional
- Neat and tidy
The negatives were:
- Not clear what I am focusing on.
- Does not convey genre
- Needs to be more eye catching.
I have already tried to change the codes of the magazine to make the genre more obvious to the reader. However I still have to follow the ideology of W magazine and use the codes and conventions of the magazines own genre of a woman's magazine.
Here is my draft so far:
My Film Poster
At the moment I have just focused upon the little details in the film poster. I have used the font 'Steel Tongs' which is the font used to produce the little credit bits underneath the film title. I have used various logos and placed them on the bottom on the poster as this is a convention used within all the film posters I have witnessed.
Many posters use the IMAX logo so I incorporated this into my own film poster. I have also added a make believe website address as on all the other film posters they all include a website address.
As noted the conventions of a film poster consist of a slogan at the top of the poster and the title, credits and when it is coming out is all at the bottom. I have followed this convention and have applied my own codes for my genre. The red on 'coming soon' makes it stand out and also is a code of a psychological thriller.
There is still a lot of work to do be done on this poster as well as my magazine. Therefore I will be keeping you posted on what I have changed and why in the future.
